How to Use the Chasing the Hatch Superhatch Map

MAP LEGENDWater Types:
Red pins – Tailwaters and lake-fed streams
Blue pins – Freestone streams
Green pins – Spring creeks
Purple pins – Mixed freestone and spring-influenced streams
Light Blue pins – Stillwaters
Map Features:
Yellow pins – Campsites
Magenta pins – Parking and trailheads
Large pins – Headwater starting points; rivers flow downstream from these pins
GETTING STARTED
• Click a large pin to open detailed information about that water
• Scroll inside the popup to view stream details, links, hatches, access notes, and fishing conditions
• Use the map controls to zoom, search, measure distance, and change base layers
• Use full-screen mode for better viewing
Performance Tip:
The map dataset is large. Use a fast device and Google Chrome for best performance.
SUPERHATCH LEVELS
Level 1
Limited or inconsistent surface hatches
Level 2
Good hatches, but not usually dense, widespread “blanket” hatches
Level 3
Heavy hatch events that can bring trout consistently to the surface

THE POPUP WINDOW

Each pin includes:GPS coordinates
Use the coordinates to locate the water or search for nearby USGS gauges.
Streamflow (USGS)
Opens USGS streamflow information, including water levels and water temperature where available.
Weather
Opens a direct Windy.com forecast link.
Navigation
Opens Google Maps directions to the selected map pin.
Camping
Use the lat/lon coordinates from the popup to search nearby camping options in iOverlander.
Large pins may also include water type, size, trout species, water description, best hatch locations, access notes, fishing conditions, and hatch chart information.

BACKGROUND MAP LAYERS

Change layers to view different map details.OpenStreetMap: Best for viewing roads, trails, public/private land boundaries, and place names.OSM Landscape: Best for viewing terrain, topography, elevation, and landforms.

LAND OWNERSHIP

Boundaries are shown where available and are for general reference only. Always verify public access, private property, regulations, and current land status locally before entering an area.Tip: Enable the GPS location icon to compare your position with nearby boundaries.

MAP LABELS AND PARKING PINS

Some river pools, access points, and landmarks are named. Other unnamed points may show “Layer 1” by default.Magenta pins indicate parking areas and trailheads.

DISTANCE MEASUREMENT TOOL

Use the ruler icon to measure distances in:
• Yards
• Miles
Useful for planning hikes, walk-in routes, and lengths of water sections.

SEARCHING

Use the search tool to find a water.
Type the water name and state with no comma.
Example:
Big Wood River Idaho

Special regulation sections are highlighted in purple.
Tap or hover over the highlighted section to view regulation details.
Always verify current fishing regulations with the appropriate fish and wildlife agency before fishing.

MOBILE USAGE

The Superhatch Map works on desktop and mobile devices using the same URL address.• Phones work well, but a mounted tablet is easier to view.
• Use full-screen mode for better viewing on smaller screens.
• Each map marker includes a Google Maps navigation link.
• Set navigation before driving, and do not interact with the device while the vehicle is in motion.
MOBILE INTERNET
• The Superhatch Map requires an internet connection through cellular data, Wi-Fi, or Starlink.
• Starlink Mini can provide internet in remote areas and run from a vehicle’s 12V outlet, even when mounted on the dashboard.

DRIVING NAVIGATION

Click the Google Maps link in a popup to open driving directions to that map pin.Use this for:
• Access points
• Parking areas
• Trailheads
• Nearby stream locations
Google Maps is a third-party navigation service. Always verify road access, private property boundaries, seasonal closures, and current conditions before traveling.
